Blog Marketing Tip: Using Your Signature Line As Anchor Text
When it comes to blog marketing there is no technique as more effective and necessary as anchor text.
What is anchor text exactly?
Anchor text is when you use an important keyword to link back to a page on your website. One of the best ways of doing this is through your signature line. I highly recommend at least three links in your signature line and it should look like this:
Anchor text for website home page
Anchor text for internal page of web site
Link to blog home page
Lets break these elements down for you. Lets say you are an auto mechanic and you have a blog that is geared toward teaching people how to do things on their own vehicles - you know, things like oil changes, tune ups, carburetor flushes, tire checks etc. You set up a domain name separate from your website so that you can use your blog to drive traffic to your website. Your signature line is a very important part of that strategy.
Basically, the top link of your signature line should point to your website and the text should be the title of your website. If your blogs name is Rogers Car Repair Blog and your website is called Rogers Car Repair then that top signature link should say Rogers Care Repair and link to your websites home page.
Next, your signature link for the internal page of your website should be keyword-rich and related to your blog post for that day. In other words, if todays post was on tune ups for a 57 Chevy and you have a page on your Rogers Car Repair website dedicated to tune ups and tune up supplies and tools then youll link that second line of your signature line to that page using a phrase like Get A Tune Up For Your 57 Chevy. Now you have your keywords acting as an important link to your website.
Thirdly, that final link should simply read Rogers Car Repair Blog and it should point to your blogs home page. The reason you do that is because people will often find a single post from your blog in one of the search engines or bookmarking sites. If they like what they read they will want to read more of your blog. Make it easy for them to do so. You can do that in the signature link.
If you follow this strategy for every blog post, you will have three important anchor text links in every blog post. Those links will go a long way to boost your site in the search engines. You want to make sure you do not overcrowd your blog with links as the search engines will pick up on this and frown upon it and it may do more damage than good. Of course, if you really want to get serious about signature links you can take a clue from us and use text links and banner links together, making them both important anchor text for your web pages. Either way, these techniques will definitely benefit your business or blog.
